Learning, expression and connection for non, limited and unreliably speaking autistic individuals.

At Transforming Education for Autism (TEfA), our mission is to empower autistic individuals who are non, limited or unreliable speakers. We see each individual as capable of learning and expression if supported through the right accommodations and skill-building processes. Our primary method, Connect through Spelling (CtS), helps to realise a person’s true capability.

We are based in Cheshire but serve families across the UK and worldwide.

At TEfA:

We empower autistic individuals to realise their potential

Through tailored accommodations and skill-building, we enable non/limited/unreliably speaking individuals to access a meaningful curriculum, express thoughts, form deeper connections, and participate in decision-making. These steps are not just empowering, they're essential for a fulfilling life. In the UK alone, 200,000 people* stand to benefit from our approach. *https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/POST-PN-0612/POST-PN-0612.pdf

We empower families

We view parents and family members as their child/adult’s greatest resource. Our approach focuses on equipping families with the skills to Connect through Spelling. We have developed a range of unique in-person and online programmes that help take the overwhelm out of learning with clear step-by-step processes.

We have clear progression tracking, robust systems and guidelines that support families and professionals in the UK. CtS has been enriched through collaboration with multi-disciplinary team, encompassing Teachers, Speech Therapists, Sensory Integration Therapists and Educational Psychologists who support us in the evolution of our training, strategies and guidelines.

We have robust standards, tracking maps and guidelines

We deliver professional training with experienced guidance

Increasing the amount of skilled professionals in the UK who can deliver CtS is vital to ensuring wider accessibility for autistic individuals and their families. Our experience shows that when families have access to regular in-person sessions, they are able to gain the guidance they need to build their skills and help their child receive the full benefits of deeper learning, expression and connection. We are committed to a responsible growth plan to ensure standards are maintained and ethical guidelines are followed.

We amplify ‘silent’ voices and support collaboration

Amplifying the voices of our students, supporting them to collaborate on meaningful projects like The Drop magazine and shaping our services around them is key.

“Without a doubt we all can learn, we just need a teacher who can find a way in”
